Thiruvasagam

The Blossoming Soul’s Tamil Veda
Composed and Graciously Bestowed by the Lord of the Beautiful Chidambaram
(The Hidden Secret of Brahma Gnana – Supreme Knowledge)

Breaking the binding chains of endless cycles of birth,
Removing sorrows, bestowing bliss—without limit—
Revealing the unfading path, it is the sweet nectar
Called Thiruvasagam, from the Lord of Vadavur.

Explanation (Pozhippurai):

In human life, the suffering caused by repeated births surrounds the body like creeping vines on a fence. The root cause of this suffering is the great burden of rebirth.
The divine nectar called Thiruvasagam, sung by Manikkavasagar, speaks of Manivasal—the blissful gateway where the Lord of Vādavur resides. It offers the path of Brahma Gnana that removes these karmic obstructions and grants bliss and liberation from further birth.

Spiritual Insight (Gnana Meyporul Urai):

The troubles and obstacles in human life stem from the cycle of repeated births. And what causes birth?
It is the imprints of thoughts (mental impressions or vasanas).

These impressions are of two types:

  1. Good imprints, based on virtuous thoughts (punya karma)
  2. Evil imprints, based on negative or harmful thoughts (paapa karma)

Impressions are the condensed essence of one’s thoughts and mental tendencies. They continue to blossom into thoughts, and thoughts into new ideas, perpetually. This cycle of blooming thoughts never ceases, and as long as it continues, one cannot escape rebirth.

Though within every human being lies the potential for full blossoming and fragrance (realization), people spend lifetime after lifetime battling within, never truly awakening.

This human body has come into existence over countless births. Hence, it is called an ancient formation (Pazhamporul). Within that ancient formation lies a core substance—the Siva Pazhamporul (ancient essence of Siva).
This divine essence alone can grant wisdom, pranava (OM) body, life-energy body, jñāna body, and ultimately, the light body (Oli Deham).

That sacred essence has always been shining subtly within our body. To show the path and the techniques to realize and reach that essence is what Brahma Gnana truly is.

To attain the wealth of Brahma Gnana, one must surrender to and constantly worship the feet of the Lord through His grace.

But there are obstacles to this inner worship—the triple impurities (malas)—that veil the Manivasal (the jeweled gate of knowledge).

The Manivasal is the gateway of wisdom (Gnana vāsal). Within it lie the secret treasures of divine wisdom.
Since the Lord resides within that Manivasal, and since the song was composed from that inner divine space, this work came to be known as both Manivasagam and Thiruvasagam.

Though sung by man, it is meant to be heard by God.
Thiruvasagam is the story of man forgetting his own true self.
Mountain honey nourishes the body; Thiruvasagam’s nectar nourishes the soul.

Thiruvasagam is not merely a devotional hymn or praise.
It is Brahma Gnana—a spiritual teaching that helps the soul dive inward and realize the Supreme.

What is the use of learning if it doesn’t lead one to worship the feet of the Lord?
Tirukkural 2

One who knows the Self suffers no harm.
But one who knows not the Self perishes by himself.
Once the knowledge of the Self is gained,
One will remain, worshiping the Self alone.
Thiru Mandiram 2355

May all beings live in bliss!

Tiruchitrambalam!
